Thierry, one question about the new PF... why have you choosen not to give out the source for the HAL? It's of course your choice and I'm not about to criticize you after all you've given freely, but I'm curious as to why you are doing this, exactly BECAUSE you have given to freely in the past.

I won't provide the source mainly for the following reasons:

1) It takes a lot of my time to prepare the distribution packages.
2) I have to answer countless email from people asking why the compilation is failing on their system. A lot of them are actually modifying the code.
3) Providing the source code hasn't given me anything in the past. My expectation was to get both contributions and bug fixes, this hasn't happened. (Although when I stopped supporting PF, a few contributions were made such as a sound system and font support.)
4) Some information was provided and/or traded to me under the condition that I didn't publish the source code. It wouldn't be fair to turn my back on these people and publish their work.

By providing a low-level HAL in binary form and a high-level API in source form (Current PocketFrog), I believe the best compromise is attained.

That sounds perfectly reasonable, and noble of you!

This begs the question though, what kind of license will PF be at that point? I guess the high-level portion will still be LGPL, but the HAL obviously can't be. Any thought to that at this point?

Current plan is to distribute it freely, both with or without the high-level stuff.
