Why was support for rle encoded bitmaps removed? I was considering creating an update of one of our games using gapidraw 1.02 which would normally only involve creating a new executable that can be delivered to the owners of the game, but now I would have to update several graphics too :( .

I personally use my own loading routines for all the graphics since I'm using a virtual File System to allow direct read from zip files.
