One thing I noticed that overdriven bass (basically clipped) still sounds like bass... even after going out a crappy speaker.

Load up your sound files and turn up the gain till it's quite clipped and see (or hear).

But you could always just give away headphones with your game :wink:

I've tried amplifying the SFX by 6dB and it seems better... was trying to avoid clipping because with headphones it sounds like shit.

I'm pondering including an option for "[]headphone" and if its checked use the lower dB samples. Would only do that for SFX though.

summary of solution that I'll attempt:
when using headphones, use 16bit stereo samples at normal dB.
when using speaker, use 8bit mono samples at clipped amplitude.

Interesting idea, the only problem is that you’ve only tested it on one device, I would want to have a listen to some other pda speakers
