Does anyone know of any retail outlets or publishers that sell PocketPC games?

I have seen everyone selling games on the web.

Also, does anyone have any ideas how games are selling for the PocketPC? Just that I'm thinking of doing a couple of games in my spare time and was wondering what the market is like.

It will make a change from doing PC, PS2 and Internet games, which I do during the day.

Thanks

Phil Harvey

not long ago the people making argentum were going to release it not only on the internet but on compactflash disks in shops. i'm not sure whether they'll still do this though and i'm not aware of any other people doing it.

you can see how many downloads trial versions of games have had at places like pocketgear.com and handango.com but i dont think they say how many have been bought - you'd have to ask the developers that.

Hi Phil
While I have had a few approaches to put my shareware game on CD collections some of which are going into shops almost all of the market is internet based. Usually the games are small enough to download though a few are getting to a silly size.

Though a few real companies have moved in it's still frontier territory with lots of shareware about.

My view is that PocketPCs are purchased by businessmen & people on the move & I write accordingly. I don't think shooters appeal to Joe average PocketPC owner

Re: numbers I have a not-very-high-tech game with a steady stream of registrations but the most in a month has been 55.

Hope this helps

Ian

Thanks for the info.

Actually I was speeking with a budget publisher I know in europe, and they were saying that they are planning to put PocketPC games in shops. Not just in the US, but around the world.

I'm tryng to find out more from them about their plans, and once I know I will let everyone know. I think (but don't take my word on this) that they would like conversions for both Palm and PocketPC, of some of the Budget PC games that they are doing.

Phil

I investigated CompactFlash disks and the price is just to much. I was quoted $25 for lots of 10,000.

-Hosed

Prices are dropping fasts. You can get a 16mb car for $15 at Amazon, 8mb should be below $10 retail. I'm wondering though how practical it would be due to the IPaq not having an integrated slot.

yeah, CF is a silly idea; however, I have seen the Larry Bank Capcom conversion games, as well as ZIO's Metalion and Zio Golf2 at retail stores, in boxes, with the software on a CD. Best Buy carries them, for example :)
