I have to go to work now, so if you would like, goto freedrive Name:ROB720 and PASS:okokok. Here is a quick note.
Here is PQ, note that loading levels tend to take a while and right next to
the attack button is the menu button. Don't be surprised if you hit it by
accidect. Also left and right strife, you have to use the center of the
vpad to turn and aim (that will be corrected in the next release. If is
does freeze (it hasn't yet) then just alt tab and end task, other then that
I owuld like you to know that I cannot be held responcible for anything this
does to your 720 or you mind for that matter. Enjoy. There are checks from
1.0 to 2 at the beginning, this was because there was an error there, and I
had to figure out exactly where it was.

Thanks for the compliments paul.

As for the 720 version, it runs fine on my 720. Some things need tweaking by rob (screen size, menu bar etc) nothing major. The speed seems as good as, if not better than my casio e-125. The 720 screen makes things a little difficult to see at times, but you get used to it. Should be a great addition to the PQ lineup :)

Johnny.

Wow! Us H/PC owners don't have to be left drooling over P/PC games anymore...I know that it is (very) early to start mentioning this, but would MIPS and SH-3 builds be considered. I have a J680 with a 64Mb CF card and am willing to test for anyone.
Just a question...
On behalf of the H/PC community, I would like to thank you for your contrebution.

Congrads, one question though? is this based on the .051 source? Or did you get a hold of the .061 source?

It dont work on the 820, possibly due to GAPI or because of 256 colours.
I know nothing.
rob

When I try to run it on my 720 it says I have to have the registered version in order to play modified games. I think it has something to do with the pak0.pak.gz file that I downloaded out of the pocket quake download area. Does anyone know what this means?

Thanks!

Great work Rob! Make sure you put the H/PC Pro code in precompiler definition conditional blocks. Please use the following:
[fixed]
#ifndef _WIN32_WCE_PSPC
//HPC Pro code
#endif
[/fixed]

I would also suggest removing the rotated landscape video modes (again, using conditional statements as above). I would keep the small, 240x180 display mode for the default #1 mode. That way all versions will be consistant, and we can perform benchmarks between them. #2 would be 320x240, which again matches the Pocket PC size. Perhaps a full screen, 640x240 #3 mode could be created. Quake should work at any aspect ratio. That would be cool with an increased FOV. Of course it will be slow as crap... :) #4 would be reserved for HPC/Pros with 640x480 screens, #5 for 800x600. So to consolidate the screen modes:
[fixed]
1 240x180
2 320x240
3 640x240
4 640x480
5 800x600
[/fixed]

I wouldn't worry about implementing 3-5 at this point.

I'll let you tweak the other issues, like centering the display, etc, before we try to merge back into one code base. I would take the onscreen controls out completely, since there is a full keyboard worth of buttons to bind to. MLook would just be any stylus input. Let me know if that device has any function keys. It would be good to assign some hardware keys the same identifiers as the Pocket PC hardware keys, to make the config files more compatible. For example, all Windows CE devices have a record button, so it should be mapped the same for all.
Once you get things smoothed out some more I will merge what you have into the current 0.062 source code. After I make sure it builds properly for Pocket PC, I'll let you verify everything is in order for HPC/Pro. Then we'll just have to sychronize our changes from then on. Basically every couple of months I can work intensely on PQ for a few days, so it's not something I'm piddling with every day.

Again, great work!
Okay, so now who is going to port a Palm version? After all, there devices are superior, right? Seriously though, a CE 2.11 version would be realistic, as it should be somewhat playable on the E-105 (and only on that particular device). However, I don't know of a single H/PC (CE 2.0) device that is powerful enough for Quake. Plus they are all greyscale (to my knowledge).

Dan East

Last modification: Dan East - 07/07/01 at 07:17:40
