hehe canon sucks j/k
its not even that its a canon but everyone that knows things about cameras think the rebels are the worst... for a lot of reasons. i dont like using canons myself but i dont have an opinion as far as quality.

I bought myself an Olympus C750UZ (10x optical zoom) for the new year. So far I'm pretty happy with it - the only thing it's missing is image stabilisation (i.e. I soon found out that I need to buy a tripod for when I zoom lots or for long exposures).

I also bought an adaptor and wide-angle lens for the front of it (and a 256MB xD card).
