Denton, the 9800XT is the most overpriced card ever made. It's only slightly (412/365 vs. 380/340) faster than the 9800pro and about twice as expensive.

Over here in the US of A, the 9800pro is $230. Dunno abut Europe, but it shouldn't be that much more expensive. Definitely aim for that. NVIDIA cards have been going down the shithole lately, with very poor shader performance (which will be necessary in games in the style HL2 and Doom3). ATI drivers, although they were bad a couple of years ago, are fine now. I've never had problems with them.

The FX5950 is grossly overpriced and underpowered. The 5900 is a semi-nice deal, assuming you can get it for ~$175 USD. Otherwose, don't even bother.

Charisma, the 9600xt is only $160 now...

I know, i havent gotten around to getting one yet. I have connections to a whole bunch of 9800 Pro's for about $150. I think im just going to O/C it to the clock and RAM speed of a 9800XT. There's a guide on how to do it somewhere, I got it in a GameSpy Daily....

Besides, why would I want to upgrade the family computer :P

9800pro for $150? You sure that's not a 9800se?

By the way, my 9800pro doesn't quite make it to XT speeds. Mine only does 400/370 (XT is 412/365).

It's a gaming place up here that's getting rid of all their video cards, and there's ebay :P But you might be right damian, they very well could be SE's.

...which are exactly the same thing as 9600xts but clocked lower. In other words, they're crap.
