Excessively vague, nonetheless I feel what you're getting at is that it's overwriting your library with a blank one. Backing up your library, or telling the iPod to go iPod -> PC should do the truck.[url][/url]
After you format, when you connect the impod to the PC, it will ask whether you want to automatically update the ipod, if this is selected (default) then the ipod will only have the songs in the PCs library, which will be none.
Either reload your library before connectiong ipod, or deselect this option.
