I sent an email to Gabe about mapmaking, got a reply back from one of the mappers. While I still think Doom 3 is going to be the winner in gameplay terms, I can't wait to get my hands on the map editor and play with the physics! Probably won't make any playable maps, just a little playground
Hi Mike,
Level designers have full control over the physics of their levels, but
you're certainly free to leave things on their default behavior. As a
process though, level design is time consuming and not something I would
term "easy". :)
Chris.

Quick question, since I don't want to waste your time (and I've heard you're
quite responsive to e-mails, kudos to that) what will a mapper have to do in
order to take advantage of the physics engine? Does each object need to be
configured manually (I've heard almost horror stories of trying to get
something happening with Karma physics) or is it for the most part
automatic, depending on the texture you choose (or however the Source engine
handles material properties)
