I am already down quite a few bucks from my PPC and books being stolen at school. Today my computer was starting up and ummm BOOM! Power supply bit the dust. Normally this isn't that big of a deal.. but of course the hand of fait just crushed my nuts once again. Motherboard and audio card are dead too. LUCKILY my 6800gt is untouched. I'm going to RMA the motherboard but the audio card is un-RMA'able.

No, I did not overload the powersupply. It was an old generic peice of crap that I can't RMA. Also, it's not under warranty so I can't have them replace my motherboard. You would think that the motherboard would have a failsafe if this ever happens but appearently not.

Jesse and Refractor, there is NO way I am paying for a new motherboard when I did nothing to break it. If it was inflicted by me then I would think otherwise. I am going to RMA it and if they give me an 'inspection fee' (which I have never heard of, and don't think will happen) then too bad for me.

You just said you caused it, by using an "old, generic piece of crap" as a power supply.

Yea, and how it's a crock.

I had a CPU fan die recently, frying the CPU, and somehow, the mobo itself. Call up tech support, explain to them at the CPU fan died, which fried the CPU, which screwed up the motherboard, and they were going to replace the mobo no problem - I had bought a new CPU thinking that was the problem.

That would be the fan frying the CPU which fried the mobo, and it was covered, similar to Kevin's situation.

Only reason it didn't go through was because it was a 1 year warranty, not 3 like I had thought.
