How about we just agree to disagree. We see socialism as different idea and thats not going to change. I think I have a different view than you because I have really seen poor life turned around with government aid. All I was trying to say is that Welfare really should exist. It shouldn't be abused though. Someone trying to get a job should work for the government and get enough to live. Taxes are taxes. Still don't think they are theft but I will leave you to your own opinions. :)

Socialism is far more dangerous than that. You want to talk about a quick way to kill an economy. In a truly socialist state, the government controls the production of goods. Goodbye free economy, goodbye competing on a global scale... this shit is ridiculous.
Truth is a possession.

I hate it when people say "communism/socialism/marxism is good in theory, but it would never work in the real world." Really, I don't think it's even good in theory because it removes all incentive to work hard. Humans need this incentive, and when a doctor gets paid as much as a janitor, there's no incentive to go through a decade of school to get to be a doctor anymore. You have a bottom-heavy economy, and it eventually (read: very quickly) falls.

Moral of the story: I need to get to sleep now cuz I'm watching the third Lord of the Rings at midnight tonight. Tomorrow will be a VERY long day.
The fates lead him who will;
Him who won't, they drag.

I need that sleep too. I can't wait to see the movie. Instead of sleep, however, I have opted to hype myself up on Starbucks double shot espresso.

Organic Superlube? Oh, it's great stuff, great stuff. You really have to keep an eye on it, though--it'll try and slide away from you the first chance it gets.

Trae, I think it is great that you feel such debt to your fellow man (no sarcasm, I am serious). I also admire a man who can pick up on an idea and truly follow it and justify it.

Having said that... ;)

I believe it is you who does not truly understand socialism. Socialism is about income redistribution. There is no meritocracy in the system at all, meaning that no one is rewarded for anything that they provide to the system. In such a case, everyone is (on paper) truly equal. The problems from such a system arise from the lack of inovation from a society that doesn't promote it and from the inherent ease of abuse. Of course there are examples of successful socialist cities...like Havana, Pyongyang and Cambridge, MA...you see my point?

Socialism cannot succeed, not because no one has tried it, but because it collapses on itself.

Thus we are left with the facts; the US was founded as a free capitalist society and socialism cannot work.

The only matter left to discuss is how to turn back the socialist programs that exist and return taxes to normal. Once that is done, and I have the other 40% of the money I earn, we can talk about how I am going to give some of it to charity...
