I can respect people who prefer to code their pages. I would associate those people in being proficient at Math, and other analitical facets of life.
On the other hand, I believe there are visual people, whom are more tactile than the aforementioned. I am one of these people, and although I can understand the html, I can get a better visual of the outcome by working in a WYSIWYG. It is by no means better than an Editor, but it does allow me to work in a manner which is more conducive to my work environments like Photoshop, Quark, Image Ready and so on. My graphic applications do not require me to code where I want pixels displayed, so I would prefer that my HTML authoring program follow suit to streamline my workflow.
It all comes down to workflow in the real world of design, and for me, a wysiwyg is what keeps my pace jumping from application to application, and that keeps my clients happy.
