Organic Superlube? Oh, it's great stuff, great stuff. You really have to keep an eye on it, though--it'll try and slide away from you the first chance it gets.

Calibration

Postby Fearless » Dec 7, 2003 @ 12:08am

How does one determine the date of something 400+M years old? It seems to be impossible to acheive an accurate calibration. Human records are no older than 6 thousand years old. So what would one use for a constant variable. The degree of variance would be way above the absurd level of 1 to the 50th... The very owner of that ancient member might die laughing if he were around to disclose his true age. An educated guess of over 6 thousand years would prove nothing more than the ignorance concerning understanding scientific method of the guesser.... 423 million years give or take 422,993,000 years is a more accurate way of stating that they don't know exactly how old it is. It's just OLD...

hitler was actually buried in a garbage dump, today used as a car dump. The body was removed by the Russians (or whatever remained, theories say just a piece of skull) and moved to the Kremlin, where it still may be. But I do like that, hitler buried in a garbage heap, where he ought to be.

Oh, and one of the theories (or one of the contributing things) to his insanity was that he needed Viagra, but it wasn't invented yet, humiliating him.

Fearless, it's carbon dating. I'm not an expert on this (this is next semester's chemistry) though. When an organism is living, I believe the carbon in it is C16, and when the organism dies, the C16 decays into C14, and by determining how much C14 there is, they can tell how old the organism is.

Fearless: Ever heard of carbon dating? Or status dating (where they date stuff on where they are in teh ground (that may be the wrong name))?
