Assume you have access to a mailing list of 100 million emails. They're out there, I got an email advertising one today.
Assume 0.1% of people click on the link. That gives your site 100,000 visits. Then assume that once again, 0.1% of people actually buy something priced $40. That makes you $4000 worth of sales, and possibly much higher.
That's why people send out junk mail.
