gee wilikers paul...whatever could you mean?

I am moose...all must bow before my superior intellect. I love me, like no one else...but I am not a pompous ass (contrary to popular belief).

Chemistry is fake anyway. It's like Newtonian Physics in that way.

For instance, electron orbits are macro explanations for what is really going on, since electrons don't actually ordit the nucleus. The "shells" they live in don't really exist per se either, since it is actually a distance of a single quanta of energy release that provides said existence.

Newtonian physics does this too, with things like 'force' and 'gravity' neither of which actually exist in the way they are described. It is really the nuclear attractions that cause these things to be simulated.

Ultimately it is only quantum mechanics that can explain the truth, and has yet to do so thoroughly. However, Newtonian Physics is still useful to estimate (albeit VERY accurately) the forces that we percieve. Similarly, Chemistry can be useful to estimate and predict the behavior of masses of atoms.

!!!! 8O EXACTLY! That's what I've been saying all along! SCIENCE IS ALL MADE UP!

Science is not "made up", it's just continuously expanding. Something that is "made up" is imaginary, science is not. You may say that we don't fully understand electrons, but they exist. Just because we can fully explain them YET, does not mean we shouldn't learn about them! You guys are talking like we should learn about something that we don't fully understand yet, atoms are the basis of the universe, and how can't chemistry be useful? Do you know what happens if you mix bleach and ammonia? It makes mustard gas, which is extremely acidic, and will eat away your respiratory system, and you DIE. Why? Chemistry says why. Well, RICoder said chemistry can estimate the behavior of atoms, which is the whole point! How do you think the monitor that you're staring at right now works? Chemistry. How does the lithium-ion (Li-) battery in your PPC work? Chemistry. Don't say that chemistry is fictional and useless if you use it every tiniest fraction of a millisecond. I mean, don't you care about how the universe works?

i think they meant that science as taught to us is just a way of us getting our heads round it. its more complicated, sure, but we use simplified versions, like how kids are taught one thing and university students are given a more sophisticated picture, thats what i've found anyway.

Well, yeah Paul, I'm not going to learn how to determine the nuclear distance in high school chemistry, but I will in college, because that's what I want to learn, and most people in my chemistry class now don't really give a care.
