I have been watching all day, they have some really impressive footage of bombs hitting and buildings blowing up, and on MSNBC of this reporter riding on the back of this truck going with some armored division, and he has really good footage of some firefights and surrendering Iraqis. I like this whole "embed" thing, it lets people on the home front see whats going on very nicely.

So why does everyone hate the French?
I wanted all things
To seem to make some sense,
So we all could be happy, yes,
Instead of tense.
And I made up lies
So that they fit nice,
And I made this sad world
A par-a-dise.

You want the list? I have disliked the french for a very long time.

1) They built the exocet missle and sold it to everyone on the planet
2) They tested nukes underwater and sold the results to 'dangerous' countries
3) They sold intelligence/satalite imagery to our enemies, including Iraq in the Gulf War

Basically whenever they get their hands on advanced technology they sell it immediately to any country with the cash regardless of who is in charge.
They also have no conept of loyalty to countries they are supposed to be friendly with.

They are like the dog that has been beaten too many times, they capitulate before their is even threat.

I know why most people hate the French, Cameron, I just wanted to know why people here disliked them, according to the beginning of this thread.

I agree that the French can be snooty etc. and the missle/nuke info is new to me. However, I don't like it when people call the French pussies in war because of past conflicts...in WWI they suffered 1,798,000 casualties and 1,300,000 deaths. The fighting was primarily on French soil, and the French did put up quite a fight.

Personally, I think history is history and the reasons why we hate the French so much aren't all that good. So the French sold some missles, do you think we haven't done equally stupid things as the US? What about the firebombing of Dresden? More people died there than in Hiroshima; most of the 135,000 killed were civilians. The object had been to "[...]bring Germany to its knees[...]" but "[...]a postwar U.S. Strategic Bombing Survey concluded that such bombing did little to erode civilian morale or impede war production." The fact remains, our fighting in WWII was just, but Dresden happened to be a boneheaded move by us, that which we thought was neccessary at the time. Maybe that's what the French were thinking when they sold their missles. Who knows.

One thing that is great about America-Freedom of Speech, Press, and all the other good shit.

What about in Vietnam, when American troops bayonetted babies? Or in No Gun Ri, Korea, when American troops killed 3,000 South Korean civilians with machineguns? How about when America GAVE, not sold, tons of weapons to Iraq during the Iraq-Iran war? Or when the US gave weapons and training to Afghanistan during the war with Russia? Or when the US overthrew the Iranian democratic government to set up an oppressive Shah dictatorship? Or when the US supplied weapons and training to South American rebel groups that directly caused the deaths of over half a million civilians in Chile and Colombia?

The US has done much more than France has done. And you can't characterize the people of a nation as "snooty", there's a French student in my English class and he's hilarious, and probably the least snooty in the class!

I'm taking French now, and I know some people that just because of this war, are not going to be taking French next year. That's just stupid.
