I will force myself to wait for the white PSP
Besides, Sony might already be working on new batteries (note: not battery packs) for the PSP. They sent out a press release the other day, claiming to have improved Lithium-Ion-Rechargable performance.
As we saw with the PS2, Sony - unlike Nintendo - is constantly updating their hardware. I have a PS2 V9 - the ninth revision. This does not mean that they don't get it right the first time, just that they add features and improvements (example: IR-reciever) along the life span. I never heard of different N64 or Gamecube hardware versions.
I will get a DS anyway, if only to play FFTA
