You know all those sniper attacks near D.C.?

LOL! I just saw on the news! They're telling people in Washington to walk in zig-zag patterns! I can just see them zigging down the sidewalk on the way to work! HAHAHA!

Actually, ive had experience with a few guns. Single shots aren't hard on most guns. Semi-auto bursts are quite hard to aim though.

I also play airsoft. Not the same, but I have relatively good aim with my M16 replica.

HAHAHA! People said they say the sniper and described him as "male..." ... yes, the sniper is a "male. That's all the more we have to say on this subject. Oh ya, and make sure you walk in ... *starts cracking up* ... ziggy zags. *laughs histerically*"

They think it's an AK-78 or something like that.

They said an Avtomat Kalashnikov 74 (AK-74), which is like an AK-47, only a little bigger, but still no scope on it.

Actually, I think the AK-74 isn't bigger; it's just modified for a different caliber and has a few other modifications (such as a flash hider).

Isn't the 74 an assault rifle, though? Do these aim very well?

Compared to "real" trained army/special ops snipers, he's not good enough. Headshot from 50m, if I remember correctly, is not all too great. He's good, but not a sniper by any means.

These are just numbers I remember, so feel free to cut my arguments apart.

The news says an AK-74, but even if it is a hunting rifle, can you shoot like that from a truck?

Don't play semantics. Assault, Hunting... it doesn't matter that much. He's a good aim, regardless.

I gotta pipe up against my better judgement...

Being the only one here (probably) with any real experience with firearms of this nature and military-style marksmanship, I gotta do some corrections and explanations.

*If you are not completely offended by the arogance, read on ;)*

1) It is a .223, they said that. So, most likely it is an unmodified AR15 since that is the most common civilian weapon in that caliber.
2) From the shell casing they found, they can tell fairly acurately what type of weapon it is. Extraction marks and such are fairly unique per weapon.
3) An AK74 modified for .223 would shock me. I can't see the point.
4) A hunting rifle it is not
5) Range does not make the sniper. It is about evasion and kill shots, range happens to only be a bonus for the prior.
6) Moving targets are not easy to hit at any range, and a kill shot is even tougher. The area you need to hit is small.

There is probably more that I should say but I can't think of anything
