Uh... it's a copy protection mechanism. Last I checked, those were added to prevent unauthorized digital duplication of copyrighted material. If it wasn't designed to thwart piracy, what do you think it's for?

It sounds like that your saying it was made that way specifically because of people pirating in the past (ie it's our fault it's this way now)
