Oh it makes it really hard to follow, but to be blunt, all other books fucking bore me. You can't miss one sentence of this book, or the whole point of the chapter could be lost. What I love is that Palahniuk's stories leave a hole, it's like an unfinished painting; while most books put everything there for you on the page, Chuck's books leave that empty spot on the canvas where you can only imagine what would be there. How he manages to jump around is like, he'll narrate one situation in some depth, but return to it later and reveal more, and then more, until finally you see how it ties in to the story and how it fits the puzzle. He fills in more and more of the canvas as he goes, and he moves on to the next spot before he finishes it, returning later to fill it in. It's cool because there's a climax in like every chapter later on in the book... You find yourself saying "OOOOOH fuck, THAT'S what that meant!" more than you thought possible. I honestly recommend it to you guys, it's a quick read and if I read it cover to cover in two days, then fuck, it keeps your attention span.
[edit] oohh thought of a better metaphor; he draws the story out in pencil, and you are left to fill in the color.. I should like, write reviews, or something.
The fates lead him who will;
Him who won't, they drag.
