You know, everyone on both side have made some very good points, and for a lot of Brig's points, I would have to reply "I just don't know." The thing is, God is omniscient and infallible, so everything he does will prove right eventually. How? Ask Him, not me.
Basically, everything in this thread boils down to one singular point: faith. You lack faith in a deity because you see no logic in His actions. I have faith in his actions, no matter how odd it seems. There's an interesting story in the Bible that we're actually reading in English right now. It's about a guy named Job. Job is a very good Christian, worships God and all, and on a bet with Satan (or "someone") God kills all of his sheep, goats, and sons. Job still praises God. God gives Job physical injuries on top of all this. Job still praises God.
Some people just have the capacity for absolute faith, and others do not. This is why I am a Christian and you an Atheist. I cannot possibly question God's actions, and because of your questioning, you have, as you put it, "lost faith." I cannot say that I think that lack of faith is a good thing, because I am a Christian. I do not, however, think any less of you because it.
The fates lead him who will;
Him who won't, they drag.
