We should tax the rich more. It's the price they pay for being part of a democratic society where wealth is distributed poorly. Consider it a premium for doing business in the US.
Welfare doesn't work. It should be saved for those who absolutely can't work.
Social Security is not in trouble. That's bullshit. Further, social security is a good thing. Making people save for retirement is good because some wouldn't do it otherwise, and I don't want a bunch of old people accosting me for money. My arm is still tired from the bums I beat the shit out of this week.
Protectionism is bad. To a large degree the economy should be allowed to run freely, with interventions for environmental, and legal reasons. Further, the government should move to stop extreme economic problems that arise in free markets. This probably would never be neccessary in the US.
I think there are positive things that come out of religion. Its negative impacts are only slightly worse (or better, depending on the religion) than the self-centered alternative of atheism--or rather, the philosophies that usually accompany it.
