Congrats! You can change the way KDE looks in the control panel. There are few sites with KDE themes but the only one I can remember is kde-look.org. An screenshot of my desktop is here:

Thank you Michael Y. I found it but alas, I have more newbie linux questions. Is there a way to look at what you partitioned hard drive contains? Like how Windows has My computer then you can just click on the drive. ALso how do you put stuff in the start menu??? Thank you very much.

Unlike Windows, Linux does not give each HD or HD partition its own drive letter. Instead, each is mounted to a different point. For example, the drive that contains your Linux installation is mounted to '/'. Unless you have other partitions set up to be specific things (for example, sometimes each user is given a partition, which is mounted to their home folder), other drives will be generally mounted in the /mnt folder. For example, your second partition would be at /mnt/hda1. In Mandrake (and possibly other distros), if you have a partition with Windows on it, it will be mounted to /mnt/windows.

Hope that helps!

Yes, that messenger is Gaim and yes it's much better than Kopete :)

Michael Y did a good job of explaining how Linux manages different partitions. Just by navigating around Konqueror it's a bit difficult to tell which directories are part of which filesystem. Take a look at the file /etc/fstab. That file defines which partitions are mounted and where.

Personally, I have the root file system, a seperate partition for 'home' and a huge junk partition I mount in /mnt/heap. The cool thing about Linux though is that the OS doesn't really care which partitions data resides on. If you wanted to move your homes or /opt or whatever, it's as easy as copying them to where you want them and creating the right symlink or updating fstab.
