PDAmill member writing game reviews

Postby Michael Y » Sep 28, 2003 @ 3:15am

This is simply absurd. Just so you guys know, I was seriously considering buying Crazy Kart (something impressive, considering I rarely buy Pocket PC games... I usually just snag review copies or make do with the demo), but now there's no chance I'll ever play another init13 game until you guys make some serious changes.

I respect the opinions of both Phantom and Sven, who's post I have read at PocketGamer.org. While I do not agree with them, I have changed my mind, and will take down the review.

seriously, i dont find anything wrong with the review. i was in the floor laughing, it is just humor and nothing more, and i guess they were just making their opinions about the game, and remember this is pocketmatrix, where people are often direct with commentaries and say what they feel with no fear. if you want to see a beauty, nice, and "cool" review where there are just positive things about the game, then go to pdarcade.com or something else.

until then, i want to let Matt and Jaybot know that the review was excelent. im tired to read reviews where companies pay to the reviewers to write good things about the games.

Looks like Chris took the review down, and magically never signed on.

Until chris or matt come online, here is the updated review:

http://jaybot7.com/re-review.htm

(matt and chris, you should be able to just plug it in, and the links should be working.. as long as you didnt remove the pictures)

this review is much fairer and accurate .

However it seems extreemly false and fake after what you said earlier about the game.

it is a shame that you were unable to see the "flaws" and basic intentional personal attacks which were extreemly visable to every other reader.

It is a shame that you are so able to pick out the bugs un-fairly in another game yet it takes a lot of force for you to even recognise faults within your review.

anyway, this still doesn't change the fact that the "chat-transcrip" format for the review is poor and uncomparible to the standard section based format.

I hope to see a return to the tried and tested method and maybe even a change in the review personel as this would not have even came to be if the reviewers, one in particular, had any ability in producing a constructive and analytical review without the force of 100+ forum replies.

I still love Crazy Kart and respect their development team even moreso as they went outside the usual remits of discussion in order to push through the fact that the review was totally out of order, the fact that they stand with it and produced in my opinion "a high-quality and frequently updated game" is comendable.

Okay, that's enough mark.

You're a rookie reviewer on pdarcade, who was not able to find any of the flaws in the game; and gave it more than enough praise. Yet, people on pdarcades forums were immediately after your review.

Some people like the chat-style review, some didn't. I only did it because of adding matt and his device to the review was the only way to make it fair, as my device wasn't technically on the compatibility list.

The faults in the review were based on the fact that the teasing jokes we're taken as personal insults. Something I did not intend to do, (as it was all meant in jest, which many people did understand) and changed it as soon as it was possible for me.

I've been writing constructive reviews for pocketgamer.org for about 3 years now. But after this, it seems that the majority of people just want to see 'fluff' reviews, such as yours, and I will not write any more after this.

Since this topic was massivly crossposted, I am going to crosspost my reply also:

The basic problem here is that you guys tried to clone one of the best games for a 2d console system.

When you clone such a great game, people expect your clone to be at least as good or better. When there are flaws in it, it just hurts it immensely. This is the main reason I think your game got such a harsh review.

I can not believe how many forums you have posted in. With your previous post about not wanting to release demos because people will find the faults, and now this crazy rant all over the place, I don’t really want to buy any of your games.

The best games in the world are made by "GAMER" companies. These are not people who just make games, but they have a passion for creating games as well. From what I have seen, you guys are just programmers out to make some money and don’t really care how much fun people are going to have(which in my mind is the #1 goal).

The gamming community is what makes or breaks your games, I think you have taken a few to many steps toward breaking it.
