Today in class we had the army recruiter come in. Since the passage of the new homeland security laws all public schools have to give info (names and numbers) of all seniors to the recruiter, we could opt out by signing a paper but no one did :p

I am in college, even though I'm also a senior in highschool, and I also just got a letter from my recruiter. I respect anyone who joins the military to fight for America. That is a very honorable cause, to fight for one's countrymen and one's freedom and the freedom of others.

You know what the FIRST problem with Psychologists are?! They TELL you what your problem is. They say, look here, you're doing this, which means you have this! THAT'S WRONG! They need to tell you that it's all in your head and that you CAN stop doing it without drugs, instead of sucking you in and forcing you to buy their prescriptions! POSITIVE THINKING is an AMAZING power!

They need to WORK with you for atleast a month to see if they can make progress before they just assign you a pill popping routine. I am SO against medicine!

RIC, what field of the armed forces did you go into? Air force? If so that's especially cool. Everything else is just regular cool ;)

How are you supposed to fix a problem if you don't know what it is? I pretty much KNOW I'm paranoid, it's just not "official" yet.

No no no. They're like: You've got this huge problem and you've got to take these pills, there's NO OTHER CHANCE FOR YOU. There's something SERIOUSLY WRONG WITH YOU and you NEED MY PILLS because YOU CAN'T DO IT by yourself or without PILLS!

First of all, there is NOTHING WRONG WITH YOU! Those "disorders" ... 1 out of every 4 people have them! One out of every 5 is clinically ocd. They're going alright, and they can fix their behavior without pills seeing as how it doesn't obstruct their lives. These aren't "disorders," they're VERY NORMAL!
Second, you mind is much more powerful than any pill! Why do you think they give people empty pills... what are they called? Starts with an N, gosh darn it I forgot! But they're empty pills, doctors give them to people ALL THE TIME and miraculously, because of the power of your mind, you're healed. You THINK you're taking medicine and you THINK you're going to get better, so you DO! It's that simple! I've never been to the doctor, I've never been sick! It's all up there and in your mind!

Placebos.

Serious cases there ISN'T a choice. Your mind may be powerful, but not when it's crippled because of the condition.

Your trying to tell me because of your mind, viruses decide not to find you as a home? Boy, too bad that doesn't work with HIV and cancer.

No, my immune system fights them off in no time.

And you havent' seen a Beautiful Mind, have you? I hate to use a movie as an example, but that movie is MORE than based on a true story, it IS a true story.

I have to go with Moose on this. Most of it is over-diagnosed bullshit. Some of it, yeah, is legit. For instance, I have a friend with a significant chemical imbalance that causes paranoia and other effects, so Medication is the way to go. But EVEN AT THAT there was a phsycological catalist that had nothing to do with physical anything.

Everything is prety much overdiagnosed, but to make the very large statement that ALL illnesses can be combatted mentally isn't right.
