Women in the military and a sexist world.

I personally belive that women are equal to men in everyway. I have known some women who were tough as nails and could hold their own with any man. Throughout history women have proven themselves equal in combat to men (even though many times they had to disguise themselves as males). Since we live in a male dominated world (as evidence of in our history, religions, cultures, etc.), women have most of the time been seen as weak and 2nd class citizens. This was and is the fault of egotistic male biases and their infuence on culture, as seen in cultural gender roles, and had nothing to with the truth. Even today in many cultures women are regarded as less than a male. Even in highly developed regions like North America, Europe, Australia, etc, there is still alot of sexism. Girls are taught to play with dolls and be nuturing and "soft," while boys are taught to play with army men and trucks and other things "tough." But there are some women who are strong individuals and see through cultural biases. These women are firefighters, policemen, construction workers, military personal, etc. It seems like slowly but surely progress is being made in the U.S. when it comes to equal oppertunities in the military but we still have a long way to go. Here are some web pages I found that were quite intresting.

I think if we are ever to progress as human beings, we need to realize that men and women are equal and should be allowed to have any role in society. Gender biases are ignorant and animalistic. It seems as it going to be a long time until this happens though, just take a look at the poll on this webpage.

Anyway how to you guys feel about this? And please Moose, leave your sexist bible out of this. Please!

What Keira said. I was going to point at the women have many biological and mental facilities that allow them to be better soldiers.

The problem is few women utilize such advantages. They're taught to be "soft" and they like doing that, so they don't WANT to do things other things that the male gender typically perform. This is why I don't think that, tat for tat, every woman is equal to or better than a man. Some women are much better than men in a lot of things. I'd even venture to say that for every man in a high place or place of authority there is a woman that is doing that job better somewhere else. But that doesn't mean as a whole women are equal to or better than men. Women should be able to do whatever they are capable of doing. Gender, race, etc, should not restrict someone from being able to apply or try-out for a position.

And like Paul said, things happen when you mix those genders and races and you'd better be prepared for that.

Ya, and this is a pretty useless thread. If someone disagrees with this then I personally don't want to hear about it.

but arent we told that women are NATURALLY more caring and stuff because we have different brains and because of hormones and stuff?

most women in the army are either gonna be really butch or basically gay. thats the long and the short of it.
