Cell phone Microbrowser

Cell phone Microbrowser

Postby Dan East » May 10, 2003 @ 8:42pm

I've got a Motorola cell phone with a phone.com microbrowser. My carrier (US Cellular) does not offer WAP services, so I cannot use the browser. Is it possible to setup my own WAP server, or access some other WAP server, or can that only be done through the carrier? Anyone know of any WAP servers I could use?

otherwise, if you can use your phone as a modem I guess all you need is a PPP daemon and a WAP gateway ( is a nice choice) installed on a permanent internet link

Ya, they're on just about every cellphone that's less than 3 years old.

Well, I tried using http://www.waptunnel.com/ and their public WAP server at 207.232.99.109 with no luck. When the phone says "connecting" I guess it is dialing into something? I can't configure that, and whatever it is trying to connect to must not be in place at US Cellular. The odd part is they do support data, so it must be something different from the WAP type access.

the phones are programmable, you just have to have the access codes, or button presses to get into the phones internal setup, it would be a pain, and i believe that every cellphones key sequences are different. you could probably rig something up to copy the info on the cellphone to a computer, then redoing the webbrowser to work, but that would be difficult

No, I have full access to all the config menus. I can change anything I want. For this phone (Timeport 270c) you hit MENU, then 073887* (0 SETUP *) to gain access to the low level menus. The default security password is 000000.
