from what I understand--being a laptop owner myself--shared video memory is not recommended at all. It's best if you buy a laptop with a graphics chip inside. You could get a cheap laptop with an ATI radeon 7500 with 32mb of dedicated memory which would be a much better choice than 64 mb of video memory shared.

[edit] oh yes, hp laptops are supposedly pretty bad ones, they dont receive many good ratings. you could get a much better laptop at the same price but with better specs. Not to mention thinner.

I have a Dell... I'd suggest a Toshiba.

This was my original choice:

I know the reliability of Toshiba's (my friend has two), and that laptop was my first choice. Not only that, but the price for that one is fucking amazing. Looking at other brands with the same specs, the price jumps up 100 to 200 bucks at least. On top of that this Toshiba has a SD slot. Very useful. :D

So do you think that it is definately worth it to pump out the extra cash for the Toshiba?

When I get a laptop next year, I will ONLY get either an Alienware Area 51m, VoodooPC M-Class 600, or perhaps a Sager NP8887, and that's it; those are the top of the line laptops. The Sager is ugly though, unlike the cyborg green Alienware or the bright orange VoodooPC. My #1 choice is VoodooPC, they're laptops are the best of the best of the best, with soooo much added stuff, it's insane! They come standard with a floppy/CDRW/DVD drive all in one! Yes, the tray has a square on it for a floppy disk!! If I'm to get the VoodooPC, I have to work as much as possible to save up, with a hefty price tag of $3500.

Alienware laptop? Might as well drag a desktop around with a UPS. You'll have better battery life that way, and it'll still be marginally more portable.
holy internets batman.

And I was about to say the Sager was the best looking out of that bunch because it was the only one that wasn't such a bright gaudy color :/
