I spend a lot more on food than clothes.
I probably spend $25/day on food and maybe $400/year on clothes.

Right, and what I'm saying is that since food is more expensive than clothes in HK, and most people spend more on food than on clothes, that's one of the reasons why it costs more to live there.
Clothes could be free in Hong Kong and that wouldn't save me much, but if they had free food... Whoo hoo!
