Yes, that would be a huge problem. It should not be near any monitors nor metal objects. Electrical wires in walls will kill the signal, your monitors and case are probably destroying it.

what exactly is ad-hoc?

Ad-Hoc is pretty much just a Peer 2 Peer type connection between 2 computers. As far as I know it doesnt allow more then 2 computers to be connected at the same time like an Infastructure would. This is what I use for my network. I have a Wireless PCI card in my Desktop and then I Ad-Hoc it to my Pocket PC. Works pretty good. Took forever though to get it to work right....esspecially with a 56k Internet connection!!!

Not true, you can have as many ad-hoc connections as you want... there may be a limit but i'm too lazy to look it up on google.. but I know for a fact that you can have more than two, as I have four computers on the same ad hoc channel right now. (not to mention david's post above) :)

Ok, well thanks for correcting me. I was not aware of that. It was pretty tough to get going though. To this day I still dont have a full explanation of how I did it. It just kinda starting working. I think It may have been because I didnt have the DNS in, plus my stupid PCI card doesnt seem to assign DHCP numbers(or maybe its the CF card?). Either way, I had to put all the numbers in manually.

Well, on any ststem to set have the dhcp assign automatically, its gonna take about 5 minutes worth of waiting around, and if you keep screweing with it.. it just makes you wait another 5 minutes.. i know its a pain. :/

Not so.

I installed a freeware DHCP manager on one PC, and every computer that connects to the network is instantly assigned an IP. You can even tie IP addresses to MAC IDs, so my print server always get's 192.168.0.2.

Clever, eh?
