Sure...

#1: (worth 4 marks)

Let p be prime and let a,b be integers. Suppose that p|a and that p|(a^5 + b^5). Show that p|b.

#2: (worth 9 marks)

Find the complete solution to the nonlinear congruence:
x^10 + 2x congruent to 3 (mod 77)

There are a few others... The test was mostly proofs... I got 0/4 on the first one and 2/9 on the second one :).

Yeah, I got a 69% on my Political Science mid-term, and I studied for 6 hours.

I blame my accutane, as it absolutely kills my retention.

#1

a=a^5 + b^5
a - a^5 = b^5
{fifth root of}(a - a^5) = b

??? Is that what they want you to do?

I hate math.

no, they want you to show that p divides b if p is prime, and p divides (a^5 + b^5) where a and be are integers...

I hate proofs.
