I found one that was $1470 ... that's not cost effective. I'm looking for something around $100 to $200. I'm just doing this for the fun of figuring out how they put money on my college ID swipe card so I can encode it with more money so I can do my laundry for free.
I'm just dreaming though, my miserable morals always hold me back.

Does your college use Blackboard? If so, then your in luck, as people have done the research already.

If it's anything like my college, it doesn't actually put money on your card. Your card contains a unique number, and all the details are stored on a central computer. When you swipe your card and put money in the machine (or however you do it) it connects via Ethernet or something similar and updates the value on the computer, not the card. Magnetic strip cards are notoriously unreliable, and besides, why spend £200 on a machine to steal anyway? Isn't that against your religion? Thou shalt not steal? Moron.
