Laptop- yea or nay?

Postby Mechcommander » Jan 4, 2004 @ 5:37am

Well all, I have raised the funds in order to buy myself one of A Compaq 2140us laptop. I'll be able to pick it up for $704, free shipping. It would put me out quite a bit of cash, but I think it could pull its weight for at least two years. My only thing that I have a problem with is that it only includes a 90-day warranty. A 2-year non-accidental warranty will cost me another $100, and I don't know if they'll have them in stock (or on sale) after that. (It'll take about two months to raise $100) So, I'm asking you guys. How are the new Compaq laptops in terms of reliability? Is it going to die after three months, or will it last its usefullness lifespan?
I'll probably make a final decision soon, and *any* opinions would be appritiated. Thanks in advance.

You'll be hard pressed to find a better price/performance ratio than an alienware.
Organic Superlube? Oh, it's great stuff, great stuff. You really have to keep an eye on it, though--it'll try and slide away from you the first chance it gets.

Well, it came yesterday, and I'm posting at school with it sitting here next to me.
All I can say is that I'm in love. The thing looks even better in person, and performs just as well as my desktop (For office apps), and will probably work great for older games. And for $703 with shipping, I'd call this one hell of a deal. (The laptop went out of stock the next day after I ordered it)
I'd post more, but right now, I'm too busy playing with it. :P
