The Romans were idiots, they let barbarians with inferior battle tactics, inferior weaponry, and inferior everything just plunder their cities and gov't.

But his point still stands: that we wouldn't be at our computers, etc. Had Rome never existed, we would most likely be much farther behind where we are right now, because the Roman Empire facilitated the spread of many technologies to western Europe (from which most of us here are decended).
