The screen on my laptop is acting funny, i dont know if its the actual LCD panel, or some other part of the display system (video card, lcd cable, etc.) It's most likely an LCD issue, i just thought id bring it up in case anyone has experienced/heard of a problem like this, as i sure havent... So the issue is, when the lcd panel displays certain colors (usually solid colors for some reason, i notice it a lot in greys as well) the pixels show up red. Its not just dead pixels or anything... its an entire centimeter wide column of these strange pixels, running the whole height of the screen. Now, the reason i think it may be something other than a messed up lcd screen is that if i fill the entire screen with a color that causes this problem, i can see an entire column of redness, and it is sort of "running" towards the top of the screen... Kind of like lightbulbs on a merry-go-round, except instead of going between on and off to create a running effect, the pixels go between red, and the color they should be. Another strange part of this that gives me some hope that its not the lcd panel is that sometimes the problem will mysteriously go away, or lighten up. It doesnt make the screen unusable by any means, typing this message on pocket matrix i dont see anything at all. Even watching a family guy dvd, its not much of an issue. But if i wanna play a contemporary 3d game (grand theft auto, etc) it becomes a nuessance...Also if im displaying an entirely solid color.

Im posting this to ask if anyone thinks they know what this problem is, and what the solution is. Please respond if you have any input, i dont want to have to buy a new lcd panel.

Hey, I'm getting the exact same problem. Probably just a bad connection. How old is your laptop? Mine's six years old, perhaps that's why.

I guess i should have noted, i did just recently replace the LCD screen, but i hadnt used the laptop in over six months due to a broken screen. I had thought the same thing, a connection problem, so i re-dissassembled it, re-made all of the connections to the lcd panel, and the problem still remains... maybe the lcd cable is messed up. Well, maybe someone who has a solution to our problem will respond. If it is the lcd panel, i do have the option of returning it, the guy i bought it from is being very nice about it, but i would rather hang on to it, as this particular LCD screen is nearly IMPOSSIBLE to get a hold of. So please, if anyone has a solution, we would be dying to hear from you!

Sounds like an issue with the video card RAM or RAMDAC. Are you overclocking? Is your computer overheating? Does it do this when you first boot the computer?

No, i dont overclock, nor does it overheat, nor does it have anything to do with when i first start it up. I just tried hooking it up to a CRT monitor, and it does not behave the same way on the CRT screen.

I'd say its a cable related problem.

Laptop LCDs don't use RAMDACs...

Anyways, for me, the problem is pressure-related. If I push on the screen hard enough I get red lines.

yeah i know, this is just the only forum community that im active in, and i figure a lot of the people here probably own a laptop, or some kind of lcd product... well, of course we all have lcd products, but you know what i mean
