CRTs do suffer from burn-in. The login screens on some of the school comps are burnt in, but that's after days. Same with TVs, however they're so incredibly rare.
Rear projection, be careful. I've been hearing conflicting stories about how easy it is.
LCDs just don't, period.
They reccoment you don't watch channels with tickers or static logos for more than 10% of your total viewing time.

I'm moving to a new house in a month, and the people we're buying the house from are leaving a Mitsubishi projection TV with the house.. I *was* looking foreward to playing Splinter Cell on it.. But, I'm having second thoughts now..

Transparent should be enough to really retard the process. Or something very slow and subtle: Fox News is a perfect example of how to resist burn-in while retaining a consistant interface.
