i just got done replacing the lcd on my dell inspiron 5100... For me, there was no sense of urgency, so it took me six months to replace. Finally, i found one for only $200. Here is my VERY important piece of advice- take out your broken lcd, and find the manufacturer/model number OF THE LCD SCREEN. This will help out in finding a new one a lot. If i wouldnt have known this piece of information, i would have NEVER found a new lcd.
And you will have to replace it with the exact same model of lcd screen. in addition to the voltage differences with the inverter, the connectors are all pretty much different. And, im assuming you know, it is a ribbon cable, so this isnt a soldering iron/duck tape kind of situation...
