Surround sound with xbox

Surround sound with xbox

Alright guys, I know this sounds stupid that I'd be asking this question since you probably know that I'm an audio technician, but with all this dolby this and that crap, I have no clue what I need to buy. Here's the problem, I bought a set of logitech Z-5300 5.1 surround sound speakers, but they don't have any kind of decoding built in. What I was thinking of doing was buying a home theater receiver, and plugging the xbox optical thing into it, then auxilary optical outputs on the back of it to send to my logitech speakers. I'd have to get some 1/8th inch to rca converters, but that's no big deal. So I guess my question is, what xbox cable do I need to buy, and what receivers should I look at? The receiver has to have RCA outputs on the back for each channel (front left, front right, center, rear left, rear right, and sub), as well as be fairly cheap. Since the speaker amps are built into the logitech system itself, I don't have to worry about that. Additionally, I'm going to be plugging an airport express into the receiver, so it needs to have a few inputs on it (a cable input would be nice). Anyone have any suggestions as to where I should look/what I should look at? This is a completely different field for me.

Why don't you just use optical? It's ALOT easier then what your doing and the cable only cost me $20.

Didn't you sell your XBox?

And "a lot" is two words :P
Organic Superlube? Oh, it's great stuff, great stuff. You really have to keep an eye on it, though--it'll try and slide away from you the first chance it gets.

Maybe you can try returning the Z-5300s and getting a Z-680 set. It should be cheaper (assuming it works) and less troublesome.
