I don't know what it is for the 2.5L V5, but for the GTI's 2.0L turbo I4, it's over 30mpg.

the 2.5L Inline 5 is rated in the rabbit to get 22city 30 highway.. However with roughly 75% highway driving ive only been getting around 24-25mpg... And I already have 4000miles on the car, so im not really hoping on it getting better, unless it does after the first oil change?

Probably the cold temps. It'll get better in the summer. You might see 35mpg in the summer, I no my mileage varies by around 7 mpg between the seasons.

Also, some new synthetic oil might help. The dealer oil is meant to lube up and coat the internals, but isn't that great for regular old driving around.

The original oil is the normal synthetic motor oil, I know so, I worked in the oil lab. The first oil change is important because as the engine is first used, leftover dirt and crap from production that was not possible to clean off beforehand will be cleaned out by the oil, so it'll dirty fast and reduce efficiency. Also James is right about the cold weather part.

Hey Jadam, let me know how you like the Rabbit.

And seriously, if anything goes wrong with it, let me know, I'll be working in Failure Analysis starting May.

I like it, its fun except a little noisey at times.

Things that have gone wrong with it so far would be my Passenger side airbaglight went on recently, need to go to the dealership for that. Also my fuel gauge is completely busted, bounces back and forth all the time and never really reads the correct amount of fuel unless it is at 75%+ fuel.

VW is in the midst of a 5-year plan to consolidate parts plants (close low quality plants and move that production to high quality plants), and the main focus of improvement is in electronics, which is probably accounts for about 90% of all failures. Make sure to ask about recalls on electrical components so you can get them fixed for free.

The airbag light has always been flickering on and off on my 1996 Golf, I just have to hit a good bump and it turns off :D .
