thanks, if there is an irq conflict, then changing slots prob won't help, since I have no other free slots, and then that would mean something else wouldn't work. I can check the bios to see if there is a way to assign it that way (my bios menu sucks on this comp, they made it to userfriendly, and took away some of the options I would like to have access to). The card is very old (about 10 years old) so all documentation about jumper and whatnot have been lost, and for all I know, the card doesn't even work (it did work about 2 months ago (last time I powered up that old comp)). I am also installing red hat today, so, I may not have too much time to mess around with it.

Ah. If you have no free slots then you're kind've in the crap anyway. Why not update the BIOS? If you can see jumpers on the card, they should be labelled there, if not, you can look up the card on the Internet. Try removing your AGP card and booting - that'll tell you whether the cad works at least.

(Oh, and install "Xinerama" in Red-Hat - that'll give you the same kind of thing for X windows).

Just got linux installed. It's nice to do away with m$ for a while. I went out today, and purchased a ata/133 card for my computer, as well as a 40 gig hard drive. I would have gone bigger, but, my budget was not willing. Wow, best buy has so many copies of WAR3 is isn't even funny. I am going to start a new thread about linux though. Oh yeah, I don't think it was a conflict with the ports because the hard disk controller I got appears to work just fine with it. BTW, I noticed that, after I installed the new hard drive, my geforce 3 refused to start (it stayed in 4 bit, low res mode the whole time). After I formatted the new hard drive, it started to work again. Wierd?
