What do you think about l337 writing in homework assignments, etc?
Here's what I think:
I think that it's stupid. If someone can't consciously control when they write shorthand-l337, and when they write formal, then there is something wrong. On occasion I will use acronyms/smilies in my instant messaging conversations, but I have never even THOUGHT of using it in school work, it's WAY too informal. If l337 speak becomes norm english in 20 years, I'm going to have to go insane...
At least I'm not bitter about it, eh?

I talk for hours every day on AIM usually to a bunch of people at once, and yet I don't use any of those shothand type things and don't see any reason to.

Heh. Passing notes back and forth I can understand using shorthand, but handed in reports? What morons. Sounds like something someone would do here.
At least you haven't gotten words in different languages mixed up.. one time I used a german word because I couldn't remember what it was in English.
And I don't even speak German.

ha, I've mixed up my languages before. Like in French class I'll say a Spanish word, or when I'm talking to my mom I'll say something in German.
That's my other goal in life, to know as many languages as possible.
Ya, I don't right in short hand on AIM or any other online chat, either. It's just a way for people with poor typing skills to speed up how fast they can talk to others online, that's all.

Occasionally, mostly on IRC I'll type some shorthand, only because of laziness, despite my 100+ WPM typing speed. I never use proper caps on IRC though, at least depending on what the rest of the channel does.

Yeah, I won't do caps, but I don't use any shorthands, other then smilies. I just don't see the point, I can type fast enough to say what I need without it.
