You definitely want a +RW, and ATI 9700.

I didn't used to like the 9700. I thought the die size was too large and it would over heat way too fast. And the extra power it requires from the PSU . But the performance IS there. Q3A is twice as fast, some games aren't. But ALL ARE faster... it's the next gen card, it SHOULD be faster. It's not better than Nvidia's yet to be released offerings, but... those are yet to be released and won't be for 3 months (I think I heard).

I read the same article as Cameron, if THAT helps validate any of it. I actually got it on of my AvantGo channels. Probably MSNBC or CNN

Does a 2200$ gift seem spoiling to anyone else? I'm happy if i get a 150$ console + a game for christmas, and maybe just one game for my birthday.
Why not stick with certain parts you NEED, not which will be better than others', but now that i think about it, spoiled people like to be better than others, so i guess the things they buy also have to be better, even if it's more expensive.

Besides, what the hell is a geforce 4 needed for? No directx8 enabled games stand out in my mind as so good i need to get a new gfx card for it. (morrowind is boring folks)

MW: Just out of curiosity, what are your current pc specs?

ATI has made good cards in the past, but the Radeon 9700 is disappointing compared to the 8500, or even the Geforce4. My bro bought a 9700 (ATI fanatic). Ive played around with it and I have to say it is a lot more unstable with games. For one, the UT2k3 demo locked up quite a bit for some reason. Never has on my Geforce 4. Also looked in my bro's bios, the AGP 8x doesn't work, which slows the card down, even though it is pretty damn fast anyway. Get the Geforce4 now, and if u want, upgrade to the geforce 5 doodad. Nvidia will slap ATI in the face by making it twice as fast as the 9700 hopefully  If CineFX is all it is cracked up to be, it will be well worth it.

Anon, my current computer can't play shit. I can't even play Deus Ex, which if my memory serves correctly is at least 2-3 years old.

Argh, I'm confused now...
I know that CompUSA is ripping me off, but so is everyone else. It's pretty much the same price for the same I don't quite know enough to build my own, and now I'm getting people telling me I SHOULD get a Radeon and some telling me I shouldn't :)

And what's this about the GeForce5?

[edit]Oh, and I know I probably sound a bit naive and stupid here, but it's actually the first time I've gotten a new computer where I actually know enough to give a shit about anything other than the drives, RAM, and processor :)[/edit]
