... religion. This is a serious question. I'm not going to get into anything because you're all offended by it. But WHY? I just don't understand what's so offensive about religion. I'm seriously missing something and it's wracking my brain, I just don't understand.

I think people have been offended mainly by all the extremely hardcore evangelists, especially Christians (note, I'm obviously not referring to you). Eventually, people start extrapolating that and not liking much religion at all; for them, it just implies lack of freedom and not much else.

But honestly, how often do you encounter a hardcore evangalist in your life? How many times does a Moose stop you on the street and take up a significant amount of time trying to convert you?

Moose's question is a valid one: why is everyone so offended by religion? I would guess it's because if the government gives money to a Christian charity, people think that they like Christians better. If they give it to a Jewish charity, they're praised. A Muslim, they are tolerant in the face of defiance. Buddhist, well no one cares about them anyway. Do you see the pattern? We fear no religion but Christianity. We fear no race but whites. We fear no gender but men. Even if we sent the exact same amount of money to charities of each religion, the government would be attacked because this country is NOT, despite what is stated in the Declaration of Independence, the Articles of Confederation, and the Constitution, founded on Christianity. We wouldn't dare offend the Jews, Muslims, or Buddhists. So everyone pays. Religious charities are still charities! Religious schools are still schools! People are getting financial aid and food, people are getting educated. Just doing it under the strongest unifying idea in a community (to make it more effective) is WRONG WRONG WRONG!

Separation of Church and State is right, but only to a certain extent. Banning the mother fucking Pledge of Allegiance because it says 'under God' in it is one of the most ridiculous rulings EVER. What is this country coming to? Where does it stop?

[edit] And even if an organization isn't based directly on Christianity, you can see all of its principles there. It will function exactly the same. You're just taking out the Christian title, everything else is still there. So what difference does it make?

This is so frustrating. I hear this one woman in a restaurant complaining about some church service because it was TOO FRIENDLY of all things. And then my brother, he's religious and believes in the moral story behind the Bible but he says how organized religion is why the world is so bad.

I just don't understand how people think most of the time. It seems like they just want something to hate so they chose the largest and most visible thing they can find that they're not a part of, and some even if they ARE apart of it.

I'd like to add that the government and others give money to Christian charities because they're so prevalent and about the ONLY religion, or even organization, I know of that even has such charities. There just aren't charities around associated with any thing else at all!

If there really is a God who created the entire universe with all of its glories, and He decides to deliver a message to humanity, He will not use, as His messenger, a person on cable TV with a bad hairstyle.

He didn't. He used a book and a guy called Jesus, might have heard of him, although I'm not too sure these days.

If you guys want to get into a discussion about religion then I always love those! :D
