I voted 4 the platformer, and although the engine coule be "knocked up reasonably quickly". the graphix, levels and story wouldnt.. unfortunatly
I think thats the problem most coders here have, we can all code reasonably good and fast, but to have a appealing game, ya gotta have some nice looking graphix
I have to agree Artax - from my perspective it's the "content creation" process that takes up 90% of the development time. From my point of view it's also the boring part (read the bit I can't do )
I agree too. "Programmer graphics" are pretty easy to spot, unfortunately. The level design itself is probably secondary time-wise to actually building level editors for my case though... we'll see.
I would like to see a Mario type game. If you can go in half with a good artist who can draw interesting and exciting characters and levels, then this will be an awesome game which will sell well.
If you made exciting characters that talked and had some kind of ability that no other Platform game has, then it could be the next number one or at least top ten PPC game seller. Personally I like human or mythical characters (like mario or a dragon or something) over animals and othercartoons (like raymon and sonic). I think you should stay with the "cute" looking characters, though. Real looking characters don't seem to sell as well on Platforms.
Also, catchy music is a must in Platforms.
