Backup copies are not pirating. However much we don't like to admit it, though, many MP3's and DVD-copies ARE pirating. The RIAA just blows MP3s' effects on record sales out of proportion (and in fact quite the opposite of what they claim is true at times). Some studies actually show that MP3s can help CD sales.
[edit] Oh, and Snailsmaster, since I live in Washington DC, I qualify to file a lawsuit against you. I am not in one of the 50 states, or a non-US country.

Of course not. I have a right to make backups of what I buy. It's only fair, especially since the manufacturer doesn't provide a good enough warranty for their product! If they provided a truly lifetime (of the owner, not of support for the product) warrant, then I can see their argument. But as is, manufacturers want it their way and won't have it any other way.
