New Transmeta CPU, Double the pleasure, Double the fun

New Transmeta CPU, Double the pleasure, Double the fun

Postby James S » Feb 9, 2003 @ 5:30am

Transmeta is releasing their Astro CPU, TM 8000, after the middle of the year. It offers double the instructions per clock of the old TM 5000, and is much better at power saving. Compaq/HP has also said that they're going to continue to use Transmeta in their line of TabletPCs, and that a new one would be "launched" at the end of this quarter, and even newer ones "announced" after the middle of the year.

So I'm probably going to have to wait to get a TabletPC, because better stuff IS indeed being released, and you know how important battery life is to me. Or I could get one now, but of course then it would be outdated before I could take it to college and I'd want to upgrade. OI! I'm in a pickle! I want a TabletPC SO BADLY right now, but new stuff is coming out and why does new stuff have to come out and don't need one now but I want one but...
AHHHHH! :x 8O *explodes*

Oh, and Transmeta processors can also be used in PocketPCs, because of their "code-morphing" ability. They read whatever machine language, as long as it's installed into the CPU's software, and translate it so the CPU can understand it. Maybe HP will make a PocketPC with a Transmeta processor, eh? Then PQ will really be soaring.

Good idea, Moose! We should do that... Hmmm...

Anyways, well it looks like you found a reason to not buy a Tablet PC this moment.

But third quarter is SO FAR AWAY! But I can't get a Tablet now because of this... maybe I'll upgrade my laptop, buy a new processors and a better graphics card for it ... ya, that'll do.

There was something else I was going to add... but it has escaped me.

Jadam, why are you wasting your precious life here by telling others, that you don't like, to get lives? Just leave if you've got such a great life. You're actions are quite ... contradictory.

Okay, I so get the MobilePlanet.com catalogue in the mail and there is this TabletPC that gets 8-16 hours of battery life. It's got this some new Lithium Ion SuperPolymer battery that's 3 times as dense as other batteries. Electrovaya is the name of the company. It's ugly and slightly thicker and heavier than the Compaq, but it gets 4 times the battery life. Has anyone ever heard of these batteries? Anyone have any info on them? They make high capacity batteries for Nokia cellphones, too. The technology appears to be pretty adaptable. I wonder if they license it out.
