So what if it's propietary, it's made by Sony and is marketed under the Playstation name, and they don't seem to deny it.. look at PS2, it has PSX compatibility despite being a new format.

It's a normal CD still, isn't it? Kinda like the GD-ROM on steroids (same size, more or less the same laser)
