Wolfenstein in History, Shoot the menu.

Wolfenstein in History, Shoot the menu.

Postby Robotbeat » Dec 11, 2001 @ 10:59pm

My history class was watching a movie about the testimonies of holocaust survivors (who I respect). I had seen it before and I thought the theme was relevant, so I pulled out my iPAQ and played Wolfenstein 3d instead of the usual Turjah2/Quake. Well, I got caught and my history teacher (a substitute) walked over to my desk and took my iPAQ, without saying a word. Well, I got it back right after class (he forgot to scold me). I have just beaten the demo on the "BRING IT ON" difficulty setting (2nd hardest out of 4). That reminds me. About one fourth of the time that I press the Action (fire) button when playing PQ or Wolfenstein, it registers as if I hit the record button (escape/togglemenu). Why? Can this be prevented? Hardware limitation? I know iPAQs suck because of their multi-press issue, but this is different, or is it?

That sounds like a hardware problem with your device. I have never had that happen with my iPaq a single time.

Dan East

I think it usually only happens if I am pressing an arrow at the same time as action. I don't know.

That very well could be. The reason the iPaq can only detect one button press at a time is because all the buttons are wired in serial with resistors to modify the current flow depending on what button is pressed. An A/D converter triggers a button event based on the current change through the button array, by looking up in a chart what voltage is associated with what button. It is possible that pressing two or more buttons at once could have the same combined resistance as just pressing the record key.

Dan East

I have a Casio, too. I broke its touch screen :( . The 3635 was only $300, so I thought "what the hey, why not?" Now I need a replacement screen for my Casio so I can play emulator games, and have fun doing it. It sucks having that issue. If I had a degree in computer engineering and mad soldering skills, I might be able to solve my multi-button press skills, but I would save a lot of time (time is money, you know) just by buying a new iPAQ (Actually, I like the new Casios better. They have the most expansion options.)

hehe. "I might be able to solve my multi-button press skills." Oh well. Editing posts is for people like that one guy whose name starts with a D. I got stuff I need to do. Goodbye.
