My car's safe enough, haven't tested it luckily.

My dad's car, 2004 VW Jetta Wagen, has 8 airbags, 2 fronts, 2 side bags for front on each side (pillar and seat), and sides in the back.

Nice car - how on earth do you afford the insurance? Is insurance much cheaper in the US?

I drive a Citroen Xsara 1.9 Turbo Diesel, and my insurance in the UK costs me about $3000 per year. That's with no accidents, ever, and 2 year's NCB. For my age, this is apparently a fast car. Most 17-18 year olds drive 1.2 or 1.4 petrols, and their insurance still costs them about $2500. It puts people off owning cars and there's a huge number of people now who drive without insurance - it's not difficult to see why!

It's nice to see that at least one or two Americans can drive a manual car... do you have to take a special test? Here, you can take your test in an automatic (very, very, very few people do) but you have do not have entitlement to drive a manual. I would guess that 80-90% of cars here are manual.
Crosswind technique: "Using your peripheral vision, react to body movements, gasps, groans, and shouts from the other side of the cockpit, and always remember that it's better to be lucky than good."

Here you take a test in whatever the place you take a test has (Which for me was an automatic at the Drivers Ed school) and then drive on whatever you want.

I drive a 2.0L Acura RSX and my insurance is about half of that. I'm on a family plan with AllState, though, so the combination of my entire family on the same plan really helps. The RSX is also rated as one of the safest cars on the road, though, nearly as safe as NYIll's Mini. I saw one wrecked on the interstate and it was barely dented while the other car was smashed. The engine drops out when the frame bends and cuts off the fuel line and oil pump so that it doesn't explode and so that the engine doesn't ram up into the cabin and kill you, and the engine dropping below the frame also helps keep the chassis from bending in. Front and side airbags help in a coupe, too. Plus it's LEV2 (emissions level), so it's not considered a "fast" sports car, but an economical sports car.

i think my car fits me well too. thats what i said when i first saw it.

my insurance doesnt cover the car. its only $1600 a year. if i got full coverage it would be at least $9200 every year since i have been in an accident. with my insurance the type of car doesnt matter.
i got kicked off of my parents insurance policy after the accident so i have my own now. you cant have a "high risk driver" on a policy with anyone else.
and here you cant drive without insurance. as soon as you get your license you have to pay insurance wether you have a car or not.

Government considers my car a sports car, insurance for me is about $2400, used to be $3Gs...

If I had money and needed a car, would be it right now.
