New camera recommendations

New camera recommendations

Postby David Horn » Apr 10, 2006 @ 6:53pm

Right, I'm after a new digital camera after I fell on my old cheapy one and broke it. I've found the for 175 pounds, and I can get a 1GB SD card for 20, taking me to ~200, which is my upper limit.

I'm going to order this tomorrow unless anyone can suggest anything better. Things it needs to be / have:

* Small. I use it when out on the bike and don't want to be lugging something huge around

* Good picture quality (5 megapixels or more, I think)

* Big screen (2 inches +)

* Optical viewfinder. I'll be using it a lot in the sun.

* Ability to capture movies at decent quality

* Use SD cards. I'll probably want to use the 1GB in my Pocket PC from time to time for movies. So memory stick is a no-no, which basically cuts Sony out.

This looks good to me and it's absolutely tiny. There's a picture on the net with it next to a CF card and it's only about twice the width. :)

Cheers,

David.

Don't let his bad pictures steer you from the camera, has some good shots with the camera. I have a panasonic camera (the FZ5), and I love it. That said, I would, if I could shop again, buy a camera with better noise performance in higher ISO settings. I really hate that cheaper digital cameras can only shoot at like ISO65 - 100 before they start putting out noisy, grainy photos.

Oh, smeg. I bought the FX8 yesterday for 180. Looks like it'll be going back...

Hi Glen,

Got the FX8 swapped out for the FX9 on Monday - cheers for that, you saved me 30 pounds and I got a better camera into the bargain!
